Cake Craft

Design and Create : CakeCraft makes cake customization effortless for everyone!

2 months

The purpose of this case study is to explore how a cake customization platform can enhance the customer experience by making cake design simple and intuitive. The focus is on providing users with a seamless way to express their preferences, leading to more satisfying and personalized cake orders.

Problem

Customers face difficulty in ordering cakes that meet their specific preferences, often resulting in confusion and dissatisfaction due to limited options or unclear communication during the ordering process.

Goal

To create an intuitive platform that simplifies the cake ordering process, allowing customers to easily express their preferences and ensuring a more personalized and satisfying experience.

I have done primary research through user surveys as my research method to gather direct insights into customer preferences and challenges with the cake ordering process.

Purpose of the Survey

To create a user-centered design for my high-end bakery app, I conducted a survey to understand potential users' preferences, needs, and pain points. The insights gathered from this survey will inform the design and functionality of the app, ensuring it aligns with the expectations of my target audience.

Survey Details

The survey was distributed through Google Forms to a diverse group of participants, including college students and baking enthusiasts. It consisted of multiple-choice questions, designed to capture a comprehensive view of user preferences related to online bakery services.

Key Objectives

  1. To identify the key features users desire in a bakery app.

  2. To understand the common frustrations users face when ordering baked goods online.

  3. To gauge user interest in customizable options and health-conscious products.

  4. To assess overall user experience and design preferences for the app.

I also conducted in-person interviews to gather deeper insights, allowing me to understand user needs and challenges beyond survey responses.

User Personas

To better understand the key users of the cake ordering platform, I created user personas for both bakery chefs and customers. These personas represent their goals, challenges, and behaviors, helping shape a solution that meets their specific needs.

Problem Statement

Shristi is a creative individual who needs an easy-to-use platform to customize cakes because she struggles to communicate her ideas to bakers, leading to ingredient wastage from inaccurate orders.

User Journey Maps

Starting the Design

I’m exploring ideas inspired by the classic game Purble Place, aiming to incorporate elements of creativity and customization to allow users to design their own cakes in an engaging, interactive way.

I began the design process by mapping out the user flows to understand the steps users would take within the app and ensure a seamless experience.

After finalizing the user flow, I moved on to creating paper wireframes to outline the core layout of each screen. These sketches allowed me to experiment with the arrangement of key elements like buttons, text, and navigation, ensuring that the interface was intuitive and aligned with the user journey.

After refining the paper wireframes, I created low-fidelity prototypes to bring the user flow to life. These early prototypes allowed me to test basic interactions and gather feedback, helping to shape the overall structure and functionality before moving to high-fidelity designs.

What I learned

In this project, I learned to design a user-friendly app by refining ideas from wireframes to a high-fidelity prototype. Balancing aesthetics with functionality was key, and feedback played a big role in improving the design.
